README for DNP DS-RX1HS Printer Firmware v2.07 Update Utility for Mac 2019-01 General Information: This firmware update utility will install v2.07 firmware onto the DS-RX1 or DS-RX1HS photo printer. Installing this firmware will add certain functionality to the printer. See the list of feature improvements listed below under firmware revision history. Installing the most current firmware version will include all improvements of the previous firmware updates. Installing each of the incremental updates are not necessary. For the DS-RX1 model printer with v1.xx firmware, this update will add functionality enhancements on par with the DS-RX1HS printer capabilities. Supported Mac OS: 10.14, 10.13, 10.12 Previous OS may also work to 10.10 but are unsupported Refer to the User Manual for more complete details using this utility, a brief version is found below. NOTICE: This v2.xx firmware installation CAN NOT be uninstalled. The firmware may be installed onto a DS-RX1 or DS-RX1HS printer that is less than or equal to the firmware version in the update utility. Once updated with this firmware update package, a lower version firmware cannot be installed. The use of RX1HS print media pack will be REQUIRED after the v2.xx firmware update is installed on your RX1 printer. All RX1HS branded printers already have v2.x and also requires RX1HS type print media. BEFORE installing the v2.xx firmware update onto a RX1 printer with version 1.xx firmware, please use up all old non-HS RX1 media packs. After the v2.xx firmware update is installed, the RX1 media packs will no longer work in the upgraded printer. Brief Operation Information for the Update Utility: To use this firmware update, please review the detailed install instructions that accompany the update utility, or download it from the DNP web site. Ensure the printer is Idle and has print media loaded. After unzipping and or opening the disc image file, copy or save the contents to your computer desktop. Review the update installation information. Then run the update application file. -The entire process will take about a minute to complete. When the update begins, a NOTICE window will appear, informing you of certain criteria concerning the installation of the firmware onto the target printer. In particular, the notice points out the one-way nature of the update and the requirement to use only DNP RX1HS media after the update. IMPORTANT CAUTION NOTE: DO NOT interrupt the firmware update process once it starts; doing so could damage the printer. DO NOT turn off or disconnect the printer or PC during this process. DO NOT unplug the data cable, or open the printer front door, or interrupt the update process in any way. The printer may be permanently damaged requiring costly repair. NOTE: The LEDs on the printer will flash while the firmware is being updated. The printer will "beep" several times during this process. IMPORTANT NOTE: Do not turn off or disconnect the printer or PC during this process. Doing so could damage the printer. Wait until the process has completed. A Dialog box will appear. The entire process will take about a minute to compete. When the update completes, restart the printer ensuring it is loaded with RX1HS print media; otherwise a long beep error signal will occur. Subsequent printing to the updated printer with non-HS media loaded in the RX1 will result in very very light, white only printouts. Switch to RX1HS media for correct operation and printouts. RX1 v2.xx firmware Feature Improvements over v1.xx firmware: Increased printing speed. Up to 20% print speed increase over firmware v1.xx resulting in a maximum throughput of 290 prints per hour when using 4x6 print media. Release Notes for iSerial USB functionality: Operational and usability improvements of the printer on Windows and Mac platform computers can be achieved with the addition of iSerial USB functionality. After the v2.xx firmware is installed, the iSerial function must be enabled using a separate utility available from the DNP web site. With iSerial Function Enabled the following improvements occur: - For Windows, the driver iteration RX1 Copy 1, RX1 Copy 2, etc are eliminated when the printer is connected to a different USB port. After the first reconnect after the FW update, it will automatically reconnect to any USB port on the PC the RX1 was previously connected without creating another driver copy iteration. - For the Mac Platform, this printer feature will allow multiple RX1 printers to be connected to the Mac. All connected DNP DS printers must have iSerial enabled for proper operation in a multi printer environment. NOTICE: The separate iSerial Enable Tool must be run to turn on, enabling the iSerial functionality for all RX1 printers and RX1HS printers produced prior to 2018.
